Q & A - Northern Outlet

Northern Outlet Theatre Company are doing 3 performances of Tape in the Pauper's Pit from 21-23 July (1.30-3.00). Tapeexamines how a weekend for two old friends can go wrong when an old girl friend turns up. "Accusations, resentment, sexual jealousies". Let's hope the girl doesn't get the blame or feel guilty for the problems the blokes have. We'll need to see it to find out. Meanwhile Paul Walker shares some thoughts with us...

You haven’t played Buxton before why have you decided to come for 2008?
The reputation for the high standard of events at the fringe, the community involvement and the superb level of its organisation.

Amongst Buxton’s famous sons and (adopted daughter) are Tim Brooke-Taylor, Dave Lee Travis and Vera Brittain. How do you feel about following in the footsteps of such giants?
To perform in such a place as Buxton is no easy feat. It is however rewarding to walked down the same streets, and be part of such a thriving hub of talent. Who knows in another 30 years, people may be looking back and thinking the same about one of this year's acts.

What reaction do you expect from your audiences?
We would hope that the audience embrace the production and take away a positive image of Northern Outlet. If the audience leave indifferent we will have failed.

5 pieces of fruit and veg a day – what do you choose to eat?
I choose to whatever is available - justifying it by holding a pictures of fruit at the same time.
Do you have any superstitions or routines that you follow before starting a performance?
Never let the director (that’s me) back stage just before or during a performance. Stage Management have been permission to beat me with a large stick should this occur, whilst at the same time shouting - “Your job is done!”

Buxton Mineral Water – how do you drink it?
With lemon.

Are there any other performers/artists that you especially admire? If so, who and why?
I admire all performers who take on challenging roles, those who remain grounded and those who do not seek admiration.

What question would you have liked to answer here?
‘All the world’s a stage’ – to what extent do you agree/ disagree with this statement?

What is your answer?
My purely academic terms I would say ‘Hell Yes!’.
